In this stage: The dress has been lightened, high lights have been added the the hair, leaves have been added the the trees in the background. The neck area has been change color to more of a warmer tone.
In this stage: The tree branches have been darkened. The girls hair has been lightened, the skin has been lighted. The eye's, lips and eyebrows have been added. The dress has been darkened.

In this stage of the painting, I have changed the skin color of the girl to make it a more natural skin tone. and the eye, lips and mouth have been aggusted. Adding more detail to the background of the painting.
In this stage of the painting you have now begun to add the skin color. In this particular painting once you have come to this point things will begin to look a little off, but it will all soon come together in the end. Here you begin to put in the dark areas of the face and only the darks first. Once you have done that you then take the same dark color and add white to it to make it a lighter value of the darker color, then you begin to add in the light areas of the face. also adding in the darks once again of the hair. Now you put in the color of her hair and add the eyes, eyebrows and lips.
In this stage of the painting, you cover the face and body with a thin skin tone color, again darkening and changing the color of the hair in the dark areas. Then after you have finished that you can begin to change the clothing colors and add more detail to the backgrounds of your painting. Once you have finished and the paint is dry, you spray a sealer, which allows you to start a new with dry into dry.
In the second stage, the defining of the facial features. Darking the hair. Here you are changing the background, hair, and dress of the girl to make it your own and let you imagination run wild.
In this first stage of the portrait of this young girl. First tone the canvas in the burnt seianna color, after you have toned the canvas. The next stage is getting in the face. Measuring the eye and counting up the face length wise of how many eyes it takes from the bottom of the chin to the beginning of the hair line. From there you find out where the eyes, nose, lips and eyebrows are located. After you have done that you then lightly color in the dark areas on the face, as well as color in the hair, then block in the dark areas of the hair. After you have accomplished that stage you move on to more details of the face. Such as adding the pupils of the eyes, nostrils also darkening the lips.

Beginning Stages of a working progress

In this final stage of the painting I have toned down the girl in the background. Toning her down makes her not the focal point of the painting. She is now a faint image of a person in the background, where as before she was more of the focus. With this final stage of the painting complete. The painting is now finished.
In this stage of the painting, I have darkened some of the shadows, added highlights to the white pot in the background. I have also painted in the girl in the background.

In this stage, I have started to define the light and dark areas of the first pitcher on the left. Also the purple ribbon has been painted in.
In this stage of the painting, I have finished the flowers and added in the vase.

In this stage of the painting I have lightly detailed the design on the pitchers and started to put in the flowers in the background. When doing the books I painted only one or two strokes onto the books so that the under layer of paint would show through giving them the illusion of a withered and old books. With the nest and bird, first paint in the darks and then the lights and then taking a smaller brush add the highlights of the nest to show the twigs on the nest.
Now here I have started to paint the various objects, such as the silver pot. Only painting at this stage the darks first. Painting the darkest dark then the lightest light. Your highlights will go last because they are the brightest color you will put on.

Stage 2. Here I have defined the shapes of the objects and began to block in the the colors. I have painted the foreground and background. Also the I have begun to paint the flowers as well as blocking in the picture on the wall.

Stage 1. Here is the beginning of one of my pieces. I started with a coat of Gesso. Gesso is a Acrylic based paint that store bought canvases already have one coat on them. I have put another coat on the canvas to help the paint from seeping into the canvas. Gesso also helps your brushes, from wearing out faster and to help the paint go on smoother.

I painted the canvas with a light wash of Burnt Sienna paint to make it a neutral color. Then I painted the objects as shapes. Doing this I will be able to know where they objects are and adjust them easier then if I painted in every detail of each object. Then to clean my brushes I used Odorless Mineral Spirits.
